Although he grew up wearing silks, lately his time on the road has him wearing less luxurious clothing. This includes lots of leather that speaks of wealth, but not necessarily his status. This particular garment has been patched together since the crash, so it's an old standby. He does have a few rings with his royal signet depicting a black crowned dragon on a field of red. SCENT: A manly musk, mixed with hints of fancy soap. Often smells of leathers and steel. Also lizard farts. VOICE: ☒ A deep baritone when trying to sound serious or intimidating, that drifts into a higher tenor when excited or nervous. Although from the 13th century, his dialect is very modern and he sounds a bit like an American doing a bad British accent. KING RICK THE MAGNAMINOUS THE ONE TRUE KING TO UNITE THEM ALL HISTORY Richard is the second of two sons of the former King and Queen. Growing up, he was mostly neglected by his parents in favor of his elder brother and the kingdom's heir, Kingsley. Consequently Richard (known as 'Dickey') spent most of his childhood being cared by his nanny Pearl and spent most of his childhood alongside Gareth, a boy around his age and a son of one of the knights. Since he was neglected by both his parents and the royal court, he found comfort in his favorite blanket and eating lots of bread. His father ended up dying when Richard was ten, but during the ceremony to crown Kingsley, his brother decided to abdicate deciding he'd rather chase his destiny by conquering, killing, and spreading bastard throughout the land. Thus, Richard was crowned king in his stead despite being still a child, with Gareth as his faithful King's guard. He grew up in relative comfort, spoiled by the Queen mother and surrounded by noble's children paid to be his friends. By the time he was in his forties, Richard ruled his kingdom alone with Gareth as his most trusted adviser and confidante. On one day that he happened to be traveling through a small country village, he spied a beautiful woman by the name of Madalena and decided to kidnap her and make her his bride, seeing as how he'd never actually got around to getting married. Although she was the girlfriend of renowned hero and Knight Beat Magazine's Swordsman of the year, Sir Gary Galavant, she ultimately chose to stay with Richard for the chance at wealth, power and a life of luxury. Yet even after a year of marriage, Madalena had stayed out of his bed and had convinced him to attack the nearby kingdom of Valencia to plunder it for its famed Jewel of Valencia. During the course of the occupation there, Richard plotted to kill Galavant, discovered he was being cheated on by Madalena, was usurped by his returning brother, and ultimately had to escape in exile with his former rival while Gareth took the throne of Valencia. After sailing to his homeland (probably England) with pirates, Richard soon discovered his former best friend's treachery and came into possession of the legendary Hero Sword. After discovering his own kingdom had been turned into a republic by his former subjects, the now homeless Richard decided to join Galavant in his quest to rescue his love, the princess of Valencia. Along the way, Richard was reunited with his childhood friend Roberta and was able to trade the Jewel of Valencia to a shady merchant for a real life actual dragon, whom he gave the name Tad Cooper. Along the way he has made allegiance with dwarves, watched Galavant's death and revival, and joined an army of the undead who were driven by love. He'd only begun to realize his feelings for Roberta and do the thing before, unfortunately, his story was derailed. INVENTORY Tad Cooper A bearded dragon that may or may not be a real life actual dragon. Richard super believes in him and hopes one day that Tad Cooper will grow to his full size and bring terror to all. Right now Tad Cooper mostly enjoys eating lettuce, bugs, and small birds. The Hero Sword A magical sword meant to be carried by the One True King To Unite Them All. It's vague powers has it glow at odd times, make angelic sounds when removed from stones and stumps, and combat dark magic. Richard is unaware of the sword's identity and instead has named it McStabbington the Third PLOTTING - EL NYSA A SONG. King Richard hails from a musical fantasy comedy where not only do the characters sing, but they're very self aware of the absurdity of the nature of their spontaneous musical numbers. Richard not only embraces this, but he regularly tries to get them going. He has the ability to inspire one other person to sing with him for up to two minutes. ROYAL BLOOD. King Richard's lineage is ambiguous, but for headcanon purposes he's from the house of Anjou and descended from Richard the Lionheart, all of this taking place in an alternate reality where history is quite a bit different given the presence of kingdoms like Valencia and Hortentia, which are likely Spanish kingdoms. Richard is quite open about being a king, but vague when it comes to the details. FOURTH WALL. Richard comes from a show that sings about Nielsen Ratings and Game of Thrones. Although Richard won't recognize characters from different canons (unless they are historic/legend like Robin Hood or King Arthur), he may cite particular movies or television shows or frame events in his life as if he's still in a television show since, as far as he knows, he still is. He's currently under the impression he's in a spinoff. DRAGONS. Tad Cooper is a bearded dragon, quite similar to the normal one that exists in reality. But King Richard super believes that Tad Cooper is a dragon and although we don't see Tad Cooper in the ending, the stinger in the last episode makes it very clear that Tad Cooper will grow into a real dragon. Richard is very defensive of Tad's legitimacy and enjoys a friendly comradery with his fellow dragon enthusiasts.
